Wicked! Man Stabs His Own Mother to Death in Lagos

Too many negative incidents seem to be happening in Lagos these days. Analysts are already attributing the latest upsurge of heinous crimes and criminality in the city to the pressure a lot of Lagosians pass through daily in a bid to make a living. A study conducted in the state few weeks back even indicated that millions of people living in Lagos are mentally unstable.
But, could the action of this man who took the life of his own mother in Lagos be blamed on ‘pressure’ or is it a clear case of wickedness and total stupidity? What kind of a son would find it easy to kill his own mother in such a heartless manner? Continue to the read the story...
Segun Bakare, 28, has been arrested and charged to the Ijeshatedo Magistrate court in Lagos for killing his mother, Mrs. Kudirat Bakare. He was alleged to have used a rope to strangle her while she was asleep. The late Kudirat, according to eye witnesses, struggled to save her life but the wicked Segun ensured that she died by using a broken bottle to stab her.
The sad incident took place at No. 3 Musa Street, Mushin, Lagos. The circumstance that led Segun to murder Kudirat is one that could be said to be very trivial. Neighbours said he Segun had a quarrel with his mom and moved out of their family house. Only for him to return while the woman was asleep and tied her neck with a rope, strangled her, broke a bottle and stabbed her all over her body.
She bled profusely and died before neighbours could rush her to hospital. Immediately Segun discovered that she’s dead, he tried to escape but was overpowered and held by neighbours who in turn handed him to the police. The offence he committed, according to the police, was contrary to section 319 of the criminal code cap 38, vol. 2 laws of Lagos state of Nigeria 2004.
When the matter came up at the court, the prosecutor, Inspector Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the crime was a capital offence and would require the attention of the state’s DPP. Consequently, the presiding magistrate, Mrs. D. T. Olalokun, ordered that Segun be remanded at the Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Lagos, pending the DPP’s advice... May God save our women (and mothers) from violent men!
